Laid To Waste

Your heart was bamboozled by deceit;
those flattering lies designed to please.
Sincerity is a delusion,
and forever dreams are but a tease.
Hope sugarcoated reality
yet failed to dilute its bitter taste.
And when happiness meant compromise,
your illusions were soon laid to waste.
Doubt fueled feelings of disbelief,
casting trust adrift in unsafe realms.
And your subsequent screams of anguish
mimicked the wind, crying in the elms.
You are tired of feeling incomplete;
life seems stuck on rewind and replay.
And anxieties are on the rise,
facing feelings you once locked away.
You sift through fund memories for love,
having lost it somewhere in the past.
And allow fantasies to reshape
as heartaches fade away, at last.
