Laid To Waste

Lonely hearts fall victim to deceit
and flattering lies designed to please.
Sincerity is a delusion;
and forever dreams are but a tease.
Doubt stirs up currents of disbelief;
cutting trust adrift in unsafe realms.
And the wailing of a naive heart;
mimics the wind crying in the elms.
The young sugarcoat reality;
trying to dilute its bitter taste.
But, when happiness seeks compromise;
youth's illusions are soon laid to waste.
You are tired of feeling incomplete;
while yesterday's, rewind and replay.
And anxieties begin to rise;
facing feelings you once hid away.
You search lost feelings for crumbs of truth,
having lost trust somewhere in the past.
And yet, in time, fantasies reshape;
while heartaches slip away at last.
