Laid To Waste
Lonely hearts fall victim to deceit
and flattering lies designed to please.
Sincerity is a delusion,
while forever dreams are but a tease.
Doubt stirs up currents of disbelief:
cutting trust adrift in unsafe realms.
And the wailing of a naive heart;
mimics the wind, crying in the elms.
The young sugarcoat reality:
trying to dilute its bitter taste.
But, when happiness seeks compromise;
youth's illusions are soon laid to waste.
You are tired of feeling incomplete,
as yesterday's rewind and replay.
And anxieties begin to rise;
facing feelings you once hid away.
Searching memories for crumbs of truth,
you've lost love at some point in the past.
Yet, in time, your fantasies reshape
as heartaches slip away: at last.
