I was an ardent, competent astronomer, ever peering in midnight blue dark, Like mysterious destiny, ever awaiting, meeting time in some emerald park. Labor kept me up long of a purple night, like yellow, fiery stars come lately; And I loved the thrill of discovery, as premier dawn rays, emerging vaguely. Nameless friends kept me busy golden days, so lusty life was well balanced, Like ivy, wrapping green arms around a tree, or rose displaying spicy talents. On heady days of lively celebration, cherished family turned up at the door, Adding extra joy to each occasion, as pretty gardens ever questing for more. I had deep affinity with accustomed night, like close rapport with old friends, When years pass like lengthened shadows, as gold time, solely comprehends. I lived in the house of royal Neptune, ever searching for another blue planet, As I stargazed on a back porch of petunias, silk diamond skies like a blanket. Our street of flowers waited patiently, for orange sun to come down to earth, Every saffron day at a precise hour, revisiting the place of rich, glorious birth. Neighbors of night visited plum evenings, often peering through a telescope, With talk of dramatic work and wisterias, and other joys which give us hope. On an endless night of sweet enchantment, a subtle stirring caught my eye; And I was arrested by dreamlike amazement, for it was Lady Night going by! Her distant eyes were smoky black, like blazing, red sunset just gone down, She had cherry painted, lyric lips, wearing diamond studded, jeweled crown. Her silk gown caught scented breezes, as she wandered among the blooms, Silver moonlight in her glossy hair, she hummed the favored nocturnal tunes. I might not be offered another chance, to meet one who's so much admired, So, I called her by her regal name, that bloom, departing Ruby King inspired. She turned and smiled in gown of grace, glossiest hair, and eyes of mystery, As one with exact, inside knowledge, of wild secluded places, hidden prettily. She called me by my name, too, for we were strangers who'd met long ago, Like a tangerine sunrise and the emerald earth, and the velvet 1pm shadow. We laughed and chatted for a long while, as I had literally stopped the night, Like turquoise waves in motion endlessly, unmindful of any precarious plight! Dawn was breaking into various colors, when Lady Night went away singing, And slowly disappearing into light, unaware of the joy she's always bringing!
