Laden In White

thoughts
spiraling
like this snow
in the lash
of december's
bitter breath

downcast eyes
watching
the leaves
gathered
at your grave
laden in white
as they admit
defeat

i struggle
to breathe
in this air
as it kisses
back
with
death's lips

knocked
on my knees
oppressed
memories
waft
in the swells
of eyes
as i lay
a wreath
of emotions
by your side

i sidle
glancing back
as i leave
my only
christmas
spirit
behind

Thank you Greg...always some love in the holiday but you still can't help miss the ones gone...we used to have huge get togethers for the holiday... it's just me and my sister, my children and grandkids now...my brother, parents and all aunts and uncles are gone...we have cousins we see through the year but not over the holidays... hugs

Sandra, This is so sad yet well written. You expressed a profound sadness very well. For some the holiday season is not a happy occasion. Have a good day my friend - Alexis

Thank you Alexis...i get into the holiday for my grandchildren and sometimes people less fortunate...maybe because it helps bring the spirit into my life...many family members are gone, i make wreaths myself as a way to give my parents a gift and feel like they are included in the festivities... enjoy your evening... hugs

Gloomy weather can evoke gloom--but memories of the past have their own poignancy--so well written as always, Sandy. Your poem communicates your mood. You took a day off yesterday?

No we had a half day for snow on monday... worked all day yesterday, we had some snow showers again today... my dad's grave is by my home and i literally drive by it all day...i made him a wreath but actually haven't placed it yet...one year it was stolen right after i placed it so i hold out until closer to christmas now... thank you Vijay :) hugs

thank you so much Chris...i made wreaths for the graves... forgot about my grandparents, never did for theirs because my aunt and uncle always took care of their grave... they both passed this year, so i guess i need to make one more..it's the one thing that brings them to Christmas... the graveside moment shared... then it's gone... hugs

Thank you so much Lin... lots of death in my family, many were young still...i make them wreaths as my heartfelt gift to them but the holidays are lacking without them here...
