such a slow, deliberate transformation -
numberless sensations of ecstatic
passion and sensuality that
you’ve traded for vitriol -
and not the everyday gutter-mouth
trampy cussing either
we’re talking an exquisitely honed and
shaped verbal assault
the kind that leaves a body breathless
and a spirit utterly defeated …
if that wasn’t distasteful enough
you’re actually proud of it -
you aim those bitty barbs with precision
dipped in a poison of the most
personal kind …
dirt is your lip gloss of choice -
blood, the ruddy rouge for your cheeks
your eyes - shaded with shade -
secrets dug up with your French nails
tap-dancing across a qwerty
your Hello Kitty iPhone aptly app’ed with every
social site in existence
mean memes meted meekly
but with meticulously intimate intent
four letters, your forté
but you dress them up for dinner in
witty glyph tuxedos
so sweetly pouted and kissed off
that folks nearly thank you
until they remember what they sound like on
breaths not quite so sugary
and from lips not nearly as pulpy …
or pursed …
yes …
you’ve traded your marzipan mouth for
a high-carbon steel semi-auto
but I know you better than most
and hand you only squibs …

I have to admit:
I hide a few hollow-points in my pocket -
brass casing ‘I told you sos’ -
self-defense rounds
for the day you come calling
looking for sympathy … or forgiveness
that day I’ll load you up myself
and you can blast a few …
