Kingfisher

His beauty is frozen into one crystalline moment
    like a sudden, brief breath… now here… now gone
         a hunter, a kingfisher, is now descending
             his beak is about to break into the tranquil seas
                wings are taut against his shimmering blue body
             like a colorful deadly dart, ready to strike
          to pierce the water with perfect precision 
       and in a moment more, the sea will explode
    into a magnificent display of splash and spray 
  as this extraordinary seabird claims his prize.

Dear Laura, the taut vibrancy of your exquisite imagery held my imagination captive as I lived in every word as they were read. Your alliteration was used to striking effect, as was each and every metaphor like; "his beak is about to break into the tranquil seas" and "like a colorful deadly dart, ready to strike". You capture the kingfisher in all his glory and build the suspense; "and in a moment more, the sea will explode".. and the power of your poem brings me there just in time to see this "extraordinary seabird claims his prize." This is exactly how a king fisher acts ! He dips in an instant making the water slosh and splash and emerges with the prize dangling from his beak ! Beautiful Laura !
