Khatoon Salma Kershet

I heard about your violent death...

And had not known about your poems.

I went searching for them, but it seems as if

Someone must have put them away.

Perhaps they would be just too lovely for our ears to hear...

Perhaps the words would be more worthy

Than our repentant hearts might be permitted to feel?

And I am left looking out of my upstairs window

At the mass of white blossoms beautifying the pale cherry trees;

Not even a wisp of wind ...the whole World is left

Silently grasping for breath;

And the fraught blossoms dares not even tremble

Should they lose their tenuous grip upon the crowded
Black twigs.

I just searched for who she is... how many innocent lives will we lose? They seem to not care about the innocent people dying, Netanyahu has blood on his hands and he does not care... His blood thirsty nature has killed thousands of women and children.. how sad these lives have no value at all..

You are quite right about the blood of the innocents...but on all sides of course. Such is the way of wars. Thank you for visiting, Silent One...your comments are always much appreciated by me. Cheers! :) john

Mesmerizing piece! I LOVE how you have woven the 2 ending lines with such grace and beauty in brevity. A fave !! ^___^ JCB

Thank you very much, JCB, high praise indeed coming from your accomplished pen. Very much appreciated by me I can assure you. Regarding those last two lines...they gave me a devil of a job. The last line originally read: "should they then lose their fragile grip upon a tenuous hold". But it wasn't right. Very pleased you mentioned the last two lines...in my humble opinion it completes the poem. Best reagrds! :) john

I enjoyed reading your voice and tribute to a doctor, journalist/ poet and students who are among the hundreds killed in the heaviest single day of bombing in Lebanon. We are ashamed of our leader as you may know. Tyvm for sharing your lovely thoughts. April's blessings

Thank you most sincerely, Anaya. One day Lebanon will be as beautiful and as happy as it once was. I can remember those days. They will return again. Khatoon Salma Kershet will not have died in vain. May God bless and keep her and her husband safe and contented always...contented and happy in the knowledge that Lebanon will rise from the dust...and from that dust a new and glorious Lebanon will be reborn. Amen. :) john
