Katrina

She absorbs the light from the room although she barely says a word I watch her sit within her struggled thoughts she desires to control the insignificant a world of rules paint by number probabilities She paints pictures of food she does't dare eat as her skin hangs loosely from skeletal arms I wonder if she exists beyond her edges beyond her life of privilege Does she retain any of the absorbed light? is there any joy within her angles? has there ever been any exuberance, or has she been born into this sadness? I wander along her borders kept at a distance by barbed wire the gates of her mind Closed Fortified Welded shut So I turn walk away thankfully sad I didn't enter her darkness For I fear I too may have been absorbed

Anorexia? Actually this poem can be taken in different contexts. The dark aura is gripping! A heck of a good write! And the very first poem that I read on the soup! Cheerio! :D

Well it sounded promising by the title and I am really sympathetic towards anorexia sufferers. So I kept on reading and wasn't disappointed! And please convey to your wife that she is doing a great job! :)

Penetrating the impenetrable wonder of a presence...then, leaving before the heart imploded. Such a daunting task for most...completely awesome job!

gosh, such good writing this is, Richard!! At first I was thinking she was anorexic maybe. And then thinking, it could be any number of mental illnesses. thankfully sad is an excellent way to say it. I feel that way when I watch some of the shows on tv about people and how they destroy their lives. Keep up the good work.

A very interesting write, Richard. If a person is not a professional swimmer, he risks being dragged down with the drowning person he is trying to save. I suppose it is good to know ones limitations and to point the person to someone who can be of real help. Addiction, in any form, is a vicious cycle. It isn't about the addictive substance itself, food, drugs, sex....it is about needs that aren't being met any other way. Mental illness takes on many forms. Thank God for Life guards!
