Justify Anything With Religion

Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand
Surely the most pious, learned Christian in all the land

Came out today with a most scholarly shocker
For which I find it hard to do aught but mock her

She told several fawning reporters** that restricting abortion
Is against the Christian faith, at least its most important portion

She explained that Christians are given free will, and then this:
That a democracy separating church and state is sadly remiss

If it intends to impose anti-abortion 'faith' against its citizens' wills
Thus labeling pro-lifers a denominational religion, as do political shills

So, whatever your stance on abortion may be, from pro-it to the death penalty
Perhaps on this we can all agree: Ms. Gillibrand's logic is pure quackery.

She lives in a world of absolutes tied to a ballot box, after such an espouse, the frailties of fate will be decided by her constituents, both by the very few who voted, and the hordes who chose to stay home that day Greshon, Aloha wk

Your comment is spot on...though Kirsten G. speaks to the choir in New York...Notice that she is polling at or under 1% as one of the 22 Democratic candidates for President. That pretty much says it all. She's at the extreme edge of a Party that's already quite extreme. Most Americans know recognize inanity for what it is, thank goodness. :) gw

As the father of three daughtersI can only opine that if a woman is raped beyond her control then the rapist should be executed. The woman is the master of her own body and there should be no laws punishing her for making her own decisions. It is a 2 way street and only the victim has the right to deal with it as horrible as that might sound and look at all the fatherless children that are alive for whatever reason. Where do we pick and choose who the victims really are?

Sounds like you're super-angry, super-upset about this, Ralph... Still, I don't see that your comment has anything to do with the actual content of the poem posted... I understand that the words abortion and pro-life are lightning rods for some, but Poetry Soup is a site where we are supposed to encourage fellow poets... Thank you for reading. Wishing you a good day! --Gershon

She is nuttier than a fruitcake. No doubt about it. Free will to do anything you want? Maybe at a 5 year old's birthday party but in real life, sorry. Doesn't work. Is she is saying we have free will to take a human life? Wow. have a great day my friend.

You have sized up this midget-mind correctly, David. That's exactly what she is saying. And she is even saying more, as well: That we have free will to stop those who would stop us from taking a life! Macabre, really...And she graduated Dartmouth College, where you used to have to have brains to get in. Not anymore...

Would that make all laws non-Christian? 'cause that is newsworthy.

Well, as far as I understand things, laws in this country never were supposed to establish a (single, specific) religion...E.g., that was the brouhaha over 'One nation under God,' in the Pledge of Allegiance. Opponents claimed that it established a (single) religion somehow. ...And Christmas, of course, is a 'secular holiday'...And all of the property rights laws based on Biblical law, all secular of course...So, everything is justified with religion (and without it too!)
