Just Within Reach

Just within reach - if only I could dare
to pluck that fruit! A luscious peach or pear?
No, not one of these! Metaphorically
I’m speaking! Like a bauble on a tree,
he brightly sparkled, beautiful and rare.

His eyes and lips were tender, and his hair -
smooth onyx framing one sweet face so fair!
That precious night I found sheer poetry
                                             just within reach.

To think I touched that face and loved to stare
at it, imagining the life we’d share
perhaps one day . . . but it was not to be.
My fondest dream had possibility
till circumstance replaced what had been there
                                             just within reach!

He who hesitates is lost. Can't remember who said that, but some moments are breathless, they just can't linger.

How many of us have such a story as this one...and how different life would have been if we had been able to achieve that reach. Congratulations.

Andrea, this is a testament to the "fickle finger of fate" and its meddling nature. Enjoyed this one and its different texture and flow. thanks for playing.

Reach out? Yes, but touch doesn't explore the in inner person, eh? This one goes deeper than mere words. Good stuff. Love, daver

Reminds me of the song by the Temptations - "Just my Imagination" - do you know that tune? I wish you luck in the contest poetic maiden. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

You have a solid sense of rhyme and rhythm and put feeling into your words. The descriptive images enhance the reader's ability to envision the experience from your poetic viewpoint. Emile #7

Really great poem Andrea, I love the phrase"Like a bauble on a tree,". Sometimes "our fondest dreams" do come true only to find out all that glitters may not be gold in the end; but in memory it can glitter forever, never to tarnish. Good luck in the competition love Shane xxx
