Just Two Pairs of Shoes

I have inside my wardrobe many clothes
composed of dresses, blouses, slacks and tops,
and as the number of these items grows,
so does my footwear. Lord, it never stops!

I’m not too good at throwing stuff away
except for things from when I was size nine!
So I can change my outfits day to day.
I love variety. It is divine!

I match accessories and jewelry
with all my clothing with its many hues.
I think I’d suffer from anxiety
without a rather large supply of shoes!

If just two pairs of shoes were all I owned,
I’d somehow have to get them color-cloned!

So you're not only about poetry. There's life to you besides poems. That's great!

My cousin and uncle worked in the shoe business. I usually wear loafers since I am a little lazy! You are not Imelda Marcus of the Philippines who owned hundreds of shoes! Please comment on my latest. I am a baseball fan so I wrote this poem

That was fun! My sister is the queen of shoes and has tons - me, not so much, after I had to give away all my heels. Good luck in the contest. I read so many fabulous shoe poems for the contest that I am not sure I'll even bother to write one.

Why is it women must have shoes that match something they are wearing? My wife would tell me because men don't care how they look...good luck in the contest

your sonnet made me smile Andrea as I hate to throw things away and if I had just 2 pairs of shoes I too would need a way of colour cloning them = perish the thought but of course we are so lucky we have so much compared to many other people who would be grateful for just one pair!:-( hugs jan xx

Andrea like you I love shoes however, I have such a difficult time finding shoes in my size. I wear a size five but a number of stores sizes start in size six for women. Enjoyed your poem. :)

wow, you have small feet like my mom!! I am the average 7. However, I somehow got to 7.5 but my left feet has gotten even bigger than the right, so I am always struggling to find shoes because I actually need two different sizes!

Ha ha Andrea! Do you really have a lot of shoes? I wouldn't have guessed that you would have that many! I on the other hand have several pair. I have two black pairs of shoes, a khaki pair of shoes, and old pair of shoes, and a new pair of sneakers...that's all. And they all hurt except for the old pair (Of course!) Your poem was exquisite, I really loved reading it this fine afternoon (I had a nap today!) What a fun piece this one was to read and I bet to write as well! Great Work!!

I would guesstimate that I have at least 30 pairs, more if I count boots!! Half those pairs are worn. But I keep wearing them to match certain clothes. When they become terribly ragged looking, I then throw them out!!

I grew up not having any shoes in summer. We went barefoot. We got new shoes once a year to last the school year. I remember burning the bottoms of my feet on the hot Fresno asphalt and I soaked them in vinegar to help the pain. I promised myself when I grew up I would always have a spare pair of shoes. I kept that promise and I love having shoes. Your poem made me recall those meager days. I enjoyed your entry very much! : )

I love going barefoot (except on asphalt of course) and in my house I am normally barefoot. I am VERY hard on shoes, maybe because I walk with large strides very fast. I don't know why I wear out shoes so much. That is another reason I have so many pairs. I wear them out too quickly!!
