Just One
I just wanted a bigger piece of the pie
And here I am, 70 and hunched,
Showing kitchens, bathrooms and making offers.
All I wanted was a little love
and now I spend my day
chasing grandkids my kids can’t raise.
Peace, that's all I really wanted
and now I nurse a bottom-shelf gin
at the cracked leather bar in the empty pub.
Just that one thing - that’s all I needed.
