Just Before
My polystyrene cup of hot chocolate looks back at me peacefully.
I cannot deny the temptation I have to take it in my hands
and look at it for a time.
It looks so comforting and yet I am taking that away
as I swallow each mouthful with pleasure.
I can always get another one,
but for now this one cup is my own and I cherish it.
I am sheltered from the rain; my coat inside my waiting car.
This day brings plenty to do, but I cannot step outside or else I will be drenched.
At this moment it is quiet and soon I will take another sip.
