For my mother and grandmother

She is always in a position of humility
                        An attitude of prayer
                                        Ready to serve
For years of submitting has bent her back
Formed a hunch between shoulder blades
Eyes cast down she sees the downtrodden
She rarely stumbles
She is always in a position to reach out
                       Hands always in front…to do
Age spots, arthritic knuckles
                    They are intelligent hands,
knowing the temperature of anything they touch, creating sustenance from flour and water,
   planting, growing, plucking, connecting, applauding
Her hands speak a thousand words
                                             in a dozen languages
She is always on her feet
Moving, busy, seeking the next task
Wiping this, folding that, stirring, fixing, caressing,
                               working, working…
It seems the very fabric of the universe
will unravel when she leaves her station
                               The sky will fall
The laws of nature not knowing
                                                how to continue without her
           She's just a grandmother,
                                               just a wife,
                                                           just a woman.

Crystol, this is a magnificent poem you wrote in honor of your grandmother. I feel like I have known your grandma better after reading your composition because you painted a vivid picture of her.  A delicate power radiates here.

An amazing poem dedication to your grandma my dear poet friend, Crystol. I always hear people saying, grandma is the greatest mom in the world and it's creatively and completely described/ portrayed in yourwords. Motherhood is extended to grandchildren and the big sacrifice/work they're doing is immeasurable. Their last and greatest love is always poured out to their grandchildren! Love your poem. Thanks for sharing. Sorry for the late visit. Blessings to you always. Hugs
