Jozi

Deep in the valleys Between the shards of glass And concrete alleys Touched up high By sunlit sky Rats sniff at the pavement litter Deep in the city’s old hands’ cracks The veins of red glare from cars’ backs The veins of white come streaming out Whilst pedestrians jostle and vendors shout To sell their wares that steam or glitters Deep in the city’s aging mind Lies memories of another kind Deep as gold mines, green as greed Of a time where horse was speed And rats still sniffed at pavement litter
