Jousting

The plain song moves
Drifting on the wind
Flags riffle
At its passing
A nervous horse
Prances and kicks
Death pauses
Wipes his plate
For rich feeding
Combat approaches

Anxiety, anticipation, adrenaline...wow, a whole gamut of emotion. Well done Terry! :)

The spoils of war are there for the taking, yet the horse still gets the hay.

I can only imagine, with your help Terry what the moments before a battle must be like. Your poem shows the emotion via the agitation of a horse which I am sure is reflective. When will derived combat be able to cease ? A thought provoking poem.

This is one of those poems that get better with each reading. Brevity and word choices combine for a great overall effect. My FAV list continues to grow. John
