Jonah and the whales

Jonah, praying in the great fish, with putrid slime on red eyelids, has the sudden faith of near death - sings on the beach, fish-vomit in his beard. Whale-songs drift, doubts echo, luring a pod to sand spits where waves throw up bones.

Dear Jeanette, Your poem is a powerful exploration of faith and doubt, greate imagery and raw emotion. The juxtaposition of Jonah's prayer in the great fish with the putrid slime on his red eyelids evokes a sense of visceral discomfort and desperation. The sudden faith of near-death and Jonah's song on the beach, with fish-vomit in his beard, capture the tumultuous journey of the soul through trials and tribulations. Your poem shows the struggle between belief and uncertainty, faith and doubt. It speaks to the cyclical nature of doubt and the fragility of faith in the face of adversity. Wonderful adventure. - Blessings, Daniel

Thanks for this thoughtful comment Daniel. Jonah is such an interesting ancient man being taught by God. A hero of faith in the end. J:)
