John chapters 16 and 17 Q and A and commentary part one

Q: How is Jesus Christ going to prevent His eleven remaining loyal disciples from going astray? John chapter 16:1 A: By causing all of them to remember His teachings and what he has previously taught them [during His 3 1/2 years of His earthly ministry.] John 16:1 [ ] expansion of what's not in the original text. Q: Why will they [the Jewish religious leaders] put them out of the synagogue, killing them will be a service to God? [Before his conversion on the road to Damascus Saul of Taurus did just exactly that.] John 16:2 A: If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. John 15:18 [Jesus knew that the Sanhedrin--the Jewish religious governing system, was willing to cast out any of His followers from their synagogues cause they hated Him and their deeds were evil and their own father was the devil. The prince of this age and the ruler of the world. ] John 16:2 Q: What is the real reason they will do these [horrible things] to them? John 16:3 A: They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. John 16:3 Q: Why was Jesus continuing to give them advance warnings about all of these things that were about to come to pass? John 16:4 A: I have told you this, so that when the time comes you will remember that I warned you. I did not tell you at first because I was with you. John 16:4 The Work of the Holy Spirit Q: Why was Jesus going to tell them about who really sent him in the first place? John 16: 5. A: Yet none of you ask me, "Where are you going?" Because I have told you these things you will grieve. But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. John 16: 5-6. Q: Why is it for their good he is going away? John 16:7? A: Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. John 16:7 Q: Why will he [the Comforter] convict the world of their [very own] guilt? John 16:8 A: [He will convict them of their guilt because:] in regards to sin and judge ment: in regards to sin, because men [and women] do not believe me; in regards to righteousness, because I am going to the Father. John 16:9-10. Q: Why is he going to the Father? John 16:10 A: Because he has finished his ministry and the Comforter begins his ministry.
