John chapters 16 and 17 Q and A and commentary part one

Q: How is Jesus Christ going to prevent His eleven remaining loyal disciples
from going astray? John chapter 16:1

Q: Why will they [the Jewish religious leaders] put them out of the synagogue,
killing them will be a service to God? [Before his conversion on the road to
Damascus Saul of Taurus did just exactly that.] John 16:2

A: If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. John 15:18
[Jesus knew that the Sanhedrin--the Jewish religious governing system,
was willing to cast out any of His followers from their synagogues cause
they hated Him and their deeds were evil and their own father was the
devil. The prince of this age and the ruler of the world. ] John 16:2

Q: What is the real reason they will do these [horrible things] to them?
      John 16:3

A: They will do such things because they have not known the Father or
      me. John 16:3

Q: Why was Jesus continuing to give them advance warnings about all
of these things that were about to come to pass? John 16:4

A: I have told you this, so that when the time comes you will remember
that I warned you. I did not tell you at first because I was with you.
      John 16:4

The Work of the Holy Spirit

Q: Why was Jesus going to tell them about who really sent him in the
      first place? John 16: 5.

A: Yet none of you ask me, "Where are you going?" Because I have told
you these things you will grieve. But I tell you the truth: It is for your
good that I am going away. John 16: 5-6.

Q: Why is it for their good he is going away? John 16:7?

A: Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will
send him to you. John 16:7

     ment: in regards to sin, because men [and women] do not believe me;
in regards to righteousness, because I am going to the Father. John

A: Because he has finished his ministry and the Comforter begins his
     ministry.
