In an unrestrained act of abject cowardice

UK Prime Minister, Kier Starmer, has snatched

pensioners winter fuel allowance.

Why cowardice?
Because pensioners do not riot in the streets!

-------------------------------------

Joan She sits in the gloom of her freezing cold room A room she can’t heat anymore Her larder is bare but she never goes there For she doesn’t eat anymore Her late husband’s medal lies there by her chair How bravely he’d fought for his land She doesn’t caress it as she used to do For the medal has slipped from her hand But she isn’t sleeping and nobody’s weeping For nobody knows that she’s there There’s no one to write and there’s no one to call And no tea and biscuits to share But there on the floor, just inside her front door A letter from no one she knew This preprinted letter says ‘Pay up, you’d better: Your payment is long overdue.’ A government ruling; the very last straw There simply was not any slack She barely got by, couldn’t skimp anymore Her camel has broken its back The Burglar Wood splinters freely, the door opens wide The stench is what hits the man first He takes a deep breath before stepping inside And the sight not the stench is the worst What to do, what to do, he hasn’t a clue His conscience has hit him again He goes to the window and using his finger Writes “HELP” on the frost covered pane * The Reporter The journalist wrote rather more than a note Saying though she was fragile and old Once the government cut her allowance for fuel She was destined to die of the cold That’s the story of Joan who died all alone Too frightened to turn up the ’stat For she was got rid for three hundred quid Let’s hope Starmer’s happy with that

this poem needs to be published in a newspaper, terry! such a sad state of affairs, even when related in perfect rhythm and rhyme...

Thanks, Ilene. Of course ‘Joan’ is fictional, but even if this coming winter is a mild one, you can be sure this account will not be too far from reality. The only saving grace is that the media will tear into Starmer like a pack of rabid dogs. Alas this won’t help those that are lost to the cold :-(

Our own government tried similar cuts like this to pensioners some years ago, the (grey army) as they were nicknamed took to the streets, and almost brought the government down, they soon backtracked and repealed all the cuts, perhaps a little (big) mobilisation of your pensioners would prevent any Joan succumbing over the winter. Nice piece Terry, cheers David

I’d love to see that happen here, David. Frankly I can’t see it but I live in hope. Glad you erm… ‘enjoyed’. Terry

Shocking, many of us worked our butt's off, payed our taxes and bettered ourselves so we're not classed as needy, Joe Idle never done a days work in his life can claim for everything including the fuel payment. I thought Labour was for the people, I thought they'd target the super rich grrrrr. You should send this to the Labour Party. Rant over. Tom

I become a pensioner next year (which I find hilarious) and won’t miss what I never had. Frankly I won’t suffer without it but many, many will. By any means possible, Starmer and Reeves (in fact the whole shoddy bunch of bandits) need to be gone. Have a nice evening….

Starmer is an object lesson for beleaguered democracies: Stay away from the progressives!!

If someone strapped Starmer into an electric chair I would happily, ACCIDENTALLY OF COURSE, stumble onto the switch ;-)

Well said Terry! So many pensioners will suffer and die cold and alone because they can’t afford to heat their homes, having had the pensioners winter fuel allowance stoped….. Beryl

Starmer is so thick he simply cannot see the slings and arrows coming his way if even one elderly man or woman dies in a cold home. It won’t matter whether or not the cold was a factor… he will be shredded alive… I hope!
