Jellybean

Jellybean is his name
the kids named him
golden furry little critter
running on his wheel all day
like a little machine
he wakes and runs
and sleeps and eats
then wakes and runs
again every day
on that wheel
except the day
his little cage door
was left open
not his mundane routine
of running on the wheel
instead nervous excitement
all day of exploring
no constraining wheel
freedom to breath
to think to feel
I like the days
when I discover
my cage door
was left open
