It's more like a metaphor about how the grit in an oyster can form a pearl, but I like your read on it, thanks, gw!

The grit that gets into the oyster causes an irritation and so the oyster in turn causes a calcification which becomes a pearl. Clever write Michelle, have made this poem a fav. Blessings, Jennifer.
