Premiere Contest WinnerIt's Nothing

It's nothing

Nothing more than a slump
Or a low
A mere depression
So I am told

But it's deeper than that
It's more of a chasm

So dark you can't see your hand in front of your face
Feeling to see if you have a face
Feeling faceless
Feeling handless
You can't pull yourself out of this

It's more of an abyss
It is feelingless
It is emptiness

It is nothingness

The word depression
Does not do it justice

That is wonderful in its sadness and in its truth. I have that ‘feeling’ quite often and it is poetry which keeps me on an even keel. Many wishes and good moods when you can...

Wonderful first place trophy winner, Maureen...The 9th of the 10 plagues in Egypt (Biblical account) was "Darkness," for three days, but not as we know it. It was a darkness one 'experienced'--to the extent that no one could stand up, sit down, or even move: An "abyss," to quote you. Your poem is magnifico! Bravo! :) gw

My "Northern Girl Blues" I've entered in a couple contests, I didn't know I would write another on depression, decidedly not wanting to dwell, I surprised myself with this one. Thank you Richard, will be looking for your "Dark Lover" next :) xomo!

Too many of us use the word "depression" so casually and have no clue what it really means. This awesome piece, however, is most insightful digging into the deeper meaning of that state of mind! Well done, Maureen! Best wishes, my friend! Pandita
