It Wasn'T Me

It wasn’t me it really wasn’t not like me at all and come to think of it It wasn’t you Either We were in a kind of war zone and people do strange things in times of war Strange things like lashing out at the one person who has your back Strange things like questioning the loyalty of everyone you know Under siege for so long hard to remember sometimes- we are not at war with each other

The last stanza summarizes this poem so nicely, and you are right, when in a war, or even a battle, we are not ourselves, and neither is our loved one aka opponent.

Thank you, my friend! I saw an old movie ("Gaby" with Leslie Caron) a while back and the ending just stayed on my mind... how they made choices during the war that were nothing at all like their normal character- & this poem just flowed from that (and my own past behavior under extreme stress!).
