It Snowed

I looked out of my window And in front of my eyes A glistening whiteness Was an icy surprise. Falling flakes had created A monochrome beauty Except for the colours Of the postman on duty. Once bare brown branches Had their modesty saved. Footprints were stamped Where elements were braved. Car shaped white sculptures Stood frozen on drives, Whilst lights on in daytime Brightened up indoor lives. Optimistic grass blades Were trying to grow, Small green survivors Through a blanket of snow. The air was so silent The sky was obscured By billions of snowflakes Each one I adored.
