It Lives In Me

Life and time and lessons learned In hopes with heed, I don’t get burned How things do change as I have grown In contemplating all I’ve known When memories on jukebox play I think about a carefree day Where worries wore a different face The consequence of youthful grace A song of love that I once knew Designer jeans with knees worn through No thoughts of losing those I love Just thoughts of what I’m dreaming of A song to dance the night til dawn Without the slightest urge to yawn No thoughts of fear for what’s ahead Just thoughts of what to wear instead Why should the music ever end While someone has an ear to bend It lives, it streams, it changes form And yet with feeling, no less warm Perhaps that is the lesson learned The one that time has really earned A life, like music, always plays It’s just, we hear it different ways No need to fear, no tears to lose No worries for a path to chose What once was me will always be My spirit lives, it lives age free

A beautiful view of life. No regrets, only hope. "Perhaps that is the lesson learned/ The one that time has really earned/ A life, like music, always plays/ Only thing we hear it in different ways./ No wishful longing for the past, no regrets in the present! The concluding lines, I love much...."What once was me will always be/ My spirit lives, it lives age free" Lovely poem Mike.

Your closing lines say it all, Mike. The spirit within live age free. That's the reason I'm going through my 3rd or 4th childhood now. :-) I enjoyed your panoramic view of life, my friend. Write On! Bill

The rhythm of your poem engaged me on a subtle level. I agree with, what was once me is still with me, even though what I considered important has changed drastically. We hear the music differently perhaps as we get older? I especially like the next to last stanza--a life like music always plays. Beautiful on so many levels. Sara

Life plays on. Yes, it does, Mike. Just like songs, some make us dance with happiness, and others make us sing songs sung blue. Your rhythmic cadence always amazes me.

I love that line about the jukebox.. we all feel this way when we age, but many of us remain young at heart.. Great rhymes and flow to your philosophical poem..Have a great Sunday
