~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
at the edge of my heart, frayed lines linger, reflecting all the memories that hold two lives together ~ by poet
It might not mean that you have gone,
But when I feel my heart’s light grow dim
And the strangeness of yesterday’s dawn,
Reminds me of that old, old hymn…
It might not mean the silence has come,
To the heart who feels so dark and alone,
Though my thoughts often will succumb,
Beneath the hesitation of a shadow’s groan…
It might not mean your love is wrong,
But everywhere, there are hues of fear,
Pressuring me to listen to the words of the song,
Collecting them all – every single tear…
It might not mean each breath is a prayer,
To feel your love, I’d quiet my obsession’s grasp,
Knowing that you’ve caused me to beware,
Quivering smiles, pleasures who tend to gasp…
It might not mean that I’ve given up on you,
But sometimes it seems that is all I can do,
Though our love is no longer brand-new,
Something inside me will ever pursue…
It might not mean that our hearts are through,
To me, you’re not a saint, but you’re so good –
When I feel least sure, you bring sweet déjà vu,
Though it’s not perfect, it feels just like it should.
It might not mean that we will always hold on,
But there isn’t a doubt that we’ve shared the best,
Moments in our past, I’d build a life upon –
We can be certain we’ve been blessed!
