It Aint All That

IT AIN’T ALL THAT

That’s all
As the rain responds to a rose’s call
That’s all
Since the only way I can get to her is to knock down another wall
And that’s all as far as I can see
That’s all and I’ve had enough if someone cares to ask me
That’s all I can suffer of platitudes from prudes
And the way a lover changes her meandering moods
That’s all so you can tell the parade to fade away
That’s all, I’ve had too much of the way lovers stray
That’s all I care to take the time to do
That’s all for me but I cannot speak for you
That’s all the clouds I ever wish to see
That’s all the crap and cruelty hurled upon me
That’s all I can take of liars who produce love so easily feigned
That’s all I can take of that which illicit people do and why I am pained
That’s all I’m going to take of living from the timberland to the south
That’s all I will suffer a stomach finding sustenance only from hand to mouth
That’s all I want to hear about Christ and His crucifixion
That’s all I care to hear about a talking snake and all the other fiction
That’s all I want of women who keep crystal secrets in a jewelry box
That’s all I’ve had of having to find and break through iron locks
That’s all I can take of people demanding that this man crawl
And that’s all
