Walking along in a crowd Everyone with a place to go No one notices my tears Alone, they don't want to know With always a cheerful hello And a smile for all to see Yet a heart as heavy as lead You see.. its really not me I hold out my hand to you You take it without thought I long to tell you my story Whether you care or not Why is this life so lonely? Is there no place for me? Alone on an island of grief Lost in the cerulean sea Blink!

What an awesome end ... awesome write, great capture of the existential loneliness in words.

Barbara don't we all mask a certain measure of loneliness. Smiling while feeling like crying, sometimes in a group and yet the feelings of not belonging still come to the fore. A sad write, but I can relate to it as well. Good luck for the contest, love Wilma

I really feel the lonliness in this poem. We have all felt like this at times. I am so pleased with my first place win in your contest. Thank you. Love, Joyce

enjoyed reading this poem...such a shameful act we americans do everyday to our fellow man....but it is because I have been taken advantage of so many times, I think that I don't stop to see the real truth.

I know just how you feel, dear LNC. We mask our loneliness with smiles and warm greetings, but that doesn't stop it from eating us up inside. Instead of being "lost in the cerulean sea," please consider my teepee offer. It still stands. Best wishes for success in John's contest! I entered one you read last month. It was written in the depths of loneliness. Still looking for the ladder to climb out. Love, Carolyn
