Into the Sullen Night

"Loving and losing: Different only by one letter and a million degrees of pain." ~ Jessica Katoff ~ With each rising sun and waning moon I envisioned the dark eclipse of our ruin. "You're crazy as a loon, he said. "It's delirium." I did not pretend his caustic words held truth To burnished stars I grieved, forlorn for love Melancholy blue, I knew I had to turn away I mourned, heart bereaved in solemn reverie, as if interred in a crypt of egregious umbra I longed for an awakening, from shadow to light for someone to mediate a semblance of sanity but into the sullen pitch of night, I quietly ebbed There was nothing left of our love to consecrate Bound by chains of despair and indigent of faith I became obtuse to reality; I had given up on me but with wounds etched across my delicate heart I freed myself from apogee and rose above sorrow ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ September 9, 2019 Eight Word Challenge John D. Hamilton Challenge was to use the following words: OBTUSE INDIGENT EGREGIOUS DELIRIUM DELICATE CONSECRATE MEDIATE AWAKENING

Your thoughtful words are an inspiration, Jan. As friends we've grown a strong bond. Thank you for so many things and for this latest and most welcome comment.

This is just so wonderful, Lin, and I am so happy to see a new poem of yours, not only on the site, but garnering the credit due, (as few here have the level of talent and skills that you do). This is deeply introspective and honest, and while tinged with a beautiful darkness, that is a part of our beings that helps us in our tougher decisions and trials.

I sincerely appreciate your praises, Greg. You are as gracious with your comments as you are in your skill as a poet. I've read your blog and understand your angst. The lack of monitoring has long been a thorn in my side, along with the trolls who frenzy feed, turning blogs into a stage for their banter, eager for attention. Jesters and clowns...more's the pity.

(2) Gorgeous imagery and phrasing, unusual and fresh word pairings and marvelously descriptive on many levels. This has every element that I look for in exceptional poetry, and I thank you for sharing it and improving my day, (a day which has been one of the worst in a long time). Blessings, Dear Poet - please keep visiting and sharing! :-) <3

What began covered in darkness has shed a bit of light towards the end. This cloak of sadness and loneliness is deeply felt in your amazing poem my friend. Your poetry has been sorely missed around here and not sure of your intentions but I loved popping in and seeing this. Best wishes in the contest

Thank you most sincerely for your visit, Jan, and yes, it's been many months since I've posted, although I've peeked in occasionally. The weaving of John's chosen words presented a challenge to me, so I wrote. You, dear one, underestimate your writing ability. Don't ever do that to yourself!
