Inspirational Quotes

Quote used: “Life is 10% what happens to me
and 90% how I react to it.”
My quote: “Though it seems difficult to be good always,
with mindfulness, in God’s light we can glow."

“Life is 10% what happens to me
and 90% how I react to it.”
I need to let that phrase of inspiration
percolate as for a while I sit.

The more I think about it, I can say
it’s very true because so much we do
is based on our reactions to others.
You’d have to be a monk it were not true

But most of us are always having contacts
at work, at home, or even when we’re out
driving! What if someone cuts you off?
You’re bound to be upset without a doubt.

Do you react with rage? Do you stew and stew?
That one small thing could ruin you afternoon
if all you did was hate that other driver.
More with God we need to be in tune

It is said the way we act sends ripples.
Man kicks his dog when he walks in the house
because his boss had been so mean to him.
A worse scenario would be he kicks his spouse!

People criticize you; people break your heart.
It’s how you take it that will do you in.
The Golden Rule we should be practicing.
To seek revenge is an awful sin.

How peaceful life would be if everyone
would practice kindness everywhere they go.
“Though it seems difficult to be good always,
with mindfulness, in God’s light we can glow."

Your amazing imagery, as well as the incredible metaphor layers, create a strong emotional sensory experience that stays with the reader for a long time. The ending you wrote is really amazing.

I love the honesty in your poem Andrea. We don't always react the way we hope to. And the inspiration in your poem tells me that if we notice flaws in our own reactions, we can still improve ourselves and we don't have to be alone in our fight to do so. ☺️ You acknowledge one thing we have no control over - the behaviour or attitudes of others. In balance you also point out the need to show kindness. Don't judge. Be kind. A very fair and honest write. 🌹🌹🌹 Thank you for entering the contest x

The 2 and next to last stanza fit me. Your clever well never idea or inspiration dries. I just can't do that sometimes even after marinating on the prompt. This more than works. You can edit some of this later should there be a prompt to write about immature people. CayCay (what about now, where are you now? where am I?)

Gotta love everyone. It can be difficult though! If they are after your life, that's a different story!

So true Andrea, it's the reaction to things others do that can sometimes make people react negatively

If we were all able to practice kindness, life would be better, but we can't because we are human and we all err from time to time. Especially when we deal with someone who knows how and uses it to get us upset. Thanks for sharing this one. I am guessing it is for a contest, if so, it reads like a good contender to me. Way to go. I agree with you cent percent dear Andrea. Our happiness depends 90 percent on our reactions to external stimuli and only 10 percent depends on our own actions and hardwork. If we can let things go even when we feel offended, it warrants happiness. But it needs a special grace from God. Love your own quote. All the best.

One needs to take control over his or her feelings and environment. If one just reacts, then you are not alive...you are science: for every action an equal an like reaction. One needs to train one's self to consider love first (regardless of the situation)...then, if that doesn't work, kink him in the nuts. Christ said, turn the other cheek -- He did not say watch your loved ones be slaughtered and do nothing.

Dear Andrea, What a gentle, grounding reflection. It is so true that the traffic of our days, the cut-offs, the sharp words, the unexpected hurdles, can either pull us into a storm or remind us to drop anchor. Ripples we send out can heal rather than hurt, especially when we let mindfulness lead the way. Blessings My Friend, Daniel

Ohhh yess... This is filled with wisdom, philosophical depth and reflects greater connection with the god on soul level ~ I absolutely agree with you on everything that you've stated here.. we do live on the reaction, rather than believing in the flow of the universe.. how others perceive us, how they treat us, it all becomes a loop and a complex equation that determines the outcome of our mood/emotions .. sigh.. very rightly you've portrayed that we can truly beam with joy if we trust in the glow of the almighty.. although, still not a saint, but we can still be a better version of ourselves.. living life in ever moment ~ isn't it?! Such s beautiful piece dear Andrea.. made me ponder deep. Sending light and best wishes always. A fav ~
