Inside a Mind With Dementia

Put yourself in a dementia patients place.
Going back to where, their memory first fades away.
We think we lost them. Not once, but twice.
Honestly they've lost us, multiple countless times.

In the beginning, she would accidentally forget. To grab the things on the grocery list.

She tells herself, "It's OK relax."
Make yourself a note, as soon as you get back.

She's flipping thru the channels on TV.
Searching for a show, that came on last week.

Don't laugh at her, as she storms off to bed.
She lays there listening, to every word you said.
With tears falling down, onto her chest.

Time passes by, and so does her memory.
She doesn't remember you.
Or your shared family.

She looks so confused, you are strangers.
Who are you?
Why are you talking to her?
In her own room?

Suddenly she's back to herself.
She apologizes, for drifting off.
You say it's ok.
But truthfully, your heart is in shock.

She lays in her bed, not remembering you visiting.
Why doesn't my loved ones, come to check on me?
Even if you came every day of the week.

God soon calls her name, to go home.
She leaves this Earth questioning, our love for her.
She then realizes it was the terrible disease.
She now watches over, everyone living life.
Making memories.
