When children are abused, their entire life path is altered.  Their confidence and courage is stripped away and they become isolated and afraid.  But, when one individual shows them they are lovable, worthy, capable and strong, they can regain their courge and strength.  They can find a new path, a new life. The memories and the emotional pain never goes away, but they can learn to love themselves again. Sometimes that is enough.

Imagine feeling helpless, defenseless and alone. Imagine behind each door new terrors of the unknown. Imagine looking forward to the coming years ahead, With secret, silent brooding and paralyzing dread. My Inner Child has not recovered from pain buried deep inside, She refuses even glimpses of the past we must forever hide. More often now, I search my mirrored aging face For signs of her once bright and open blue-grey gaze. Deep wonder in a sea of secrets, where sleeps the child I use to be? Grieving moments of lost innocence are also known to me. Life could have been so different; could have been sublime; Would have been loving, filled with joy but now is lost to time. But interject a smile; a hand held out in love, not lust And the warmth of acceptance, security and trust. Chase away the demons, the terror and the night. Let love bring out the brilliance of one small soul's hidden light. Praise creativity, deep intelligence, sweet wonder for life's gifts; Fill that mind with goodness, and freedom for the heart it lifts. Chase away the demons, the terror, and the night. Let love bring out the brilliance of one small soul's hidden light. Chula Fleming© 11/16/2017
