Infatuation

I met her in the dimness of the night.
Why did we sit near each other I don't know.
It's not that she was such a lovely person
But ugly she was not. That is what I thought.
We were so young then, round sweet eighteen.
Did I love her? Now in my old age I think not.
But I had never dated a girl before,
So infatuation it must surely have been.
Proud I felt that some lass felt something for me.
Prouder still as she lay her head on my shoulders.
We decided to meet next day, go for a swim.
And suddenly the urge so great I kissed her.
But time was cruel for I was madly in love
With love for I never expressed my true love.
Soon we separated and that was the end of all.
But soon I found another and this was for real.
