Individual Is Poetry

"To be or not to be?" Such a loaded question... for some, indeed, choose not to be, what others would have them write; not to pen where others set and wallow~ (ears, eyes and hearts tuned to personal, less classical lyrical mystery) -- ---------------------------------- Who knows? Yesterday's HG Wells perhaps tomorrow's science diction.

Poetry should be one's individual choice....not something forced upon. The poet should have freedom too. Now I understand why you don't take part in any contest. But there too, we have choice... but of course limited....! Your poem has made me smile.

Hi Valsa; thank you. Smile is great outcome! Contests are fine. Like you say, it is a personal choice. Generally not my way. When I start to write, I try to make of myself a blank slate...left with just an impulse that got me there, at the lone scrimmage (oxymoron in a mental sense). I sit quietly...waiting...usually does not take long, the impulse enough. Until an interesting thought or phrase, even one word pops into mind. Then I begin the poem, letting the impulse lead me, staying out of the way as much as humanly possible -- to me, poetry, along with everything else a writer uses for definition and motivation, above all else is viewed as sacred -- alive and independent of me in a manic, schizoid way:) The best I can explain my motivation and process. Blessings my friend.

Even well crafted writing, if it is not honest, from the heart...the reader can tell.

we need to write about what we need to write about, not what others would like us to write but what the soul dictates Joe. So well said, :)

Absolutely -- the way I see it also. No one forces another to read. Lots of voices here on Soup.

I think I probably fit this category. I don't usually write for the prompts unless something really strikes me. I prefer to find my own inspiration and see where it leads. Hope your week is pleasant Joe

Likewise. Who knows? I would not argue with Shakespeare: "True to thine own self". Blessings my friend.
