In This Seat
it was at the crest
neither coming nor going
falling or flying
when I left the sea
a wave of my own making
neither captive nor free
I danced
fell over my numb feet
tried a new rhythym
invented a new
beat
couldn’t find the exit
the entrance opened
on a strange street
in the maze of opportunities
choice spins like a madmen
a child’s top drifting off the edge
of a mirrored desk
in it’s reflection
watching you puzzled
at why I have changed
why I have rearranged
why I have gone to the perimiter
and entered the fast lane
everything seems altered
yet all is the same
in the right positions
but labeled with other’s
names
I gaze into the present
where past and future meet
I stop to ponder
consequence
but all I find
is retreat
and at the spur
of impulse
and the core of heat
I lift off
only to find
myself still here
in this seat.
