In This Last Moment

In the last moment, your eyes did plead,
for you wished your life, I would not concead,
the knife in my hand, I plunged so deep,
I gave you peace, an eternal sleep.

The stranger lay dead, by your side, in our bed,
an axe had cleaved his once beautiful head,
now, nothing but gore did cover his face,
to take another's wife was such a disgrace.

I kneel by our bed waiting for men to come,
to take me in chains, my heart is numb,
I shall face my end for this murderous crime,
dragged through the streets, dragged through the slime.

I did adore you, my love it was true,
any small thing, for you, I would do,
never did I expect what I saw,
I struck like the eagle with a murderous claw.

At this last moment, I saw only red,
my vengeful heart did want you both dead,
if I had thought, how different things could well be,
my beloved, you might still be with me.

I cover you now, on the steps I hear feet,
the sum of our lives shall now be complete,
the rope waits for me, my future, there is none,
in losing you, my life, it is done.

I cover your glory, you are my divine,
my heart is now dead, it does no longer shine,
oh, friends, take me with you, I do know my end,
a dance with the devil, is that not the trend?

Of the horror to come, I have no fear,
I have killed the one that I loved so dear,
her lover, the peacock, lies by her side,
from life's last moment I shall not try to hide.

So let me drop, come to a sudden end,
no one shall weep, I shall have no friend,
then into a box, buried, no marker to tell,
where my body went before I went to Hell.

In the last moment, your eyes did plead,
for you wished your life, I would not concead,
the knife in my hand, I plunged so deep,
I gave you peace, an eternal sleep.

A crime of passion. The strike of a knife. The end of a life. Love is...peculiar. Nicely penned Mike! Linda

A story told in poetic form that matches up to some true crime I see on TV. So sad that someone would go so far, but they do and end up having to pay a terrible price for their misjudgment. I enjoyed reading this one that has good flow, rhythm and rhyme. Your visit to my page was encouraging. Sara

Hi Sara, thank you for dropping by and the comment, it is much appreciated. I am so glad you liked the piece. This was my second attempt at the same poem. The first was so like my poem, "The Eternal Breath," that I had to stop and start again. I tried to write it Poe-esque but it didn't quite work like I wanted. Have a wonderful Sunday. Hugs always ..... Mike. XX

Hi, Anne-Lise, thank you for dropping by and the comment, it is much appreciated. You are so right, no one has the right to take another's life, no matter what the reason. I think that is why he stays by his own bloody crime. Love and Hugs always ..... Mike. XX

A crime of passion happens more than we know. It is sad for all parties. You have written this story very well Mike. Today Aug. 9 was my late husbands birthday. I watched a Hulu series today because I was feeling a bit melancholy missing him. Blessings xxoo

A powerful and passionate poem, Mike. A story well told, and the thoughts of many in their nightmares of pain and revenge. Thanks for writing such a dramatic, intense, and emotional poem. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

Hi Bill, thank you for dropping by and the comment, it is much appreciated. I am so glad you liked the piece. I am so glad you could read the drama and passion throughout this piece. It was just one of those thoughts that drop into the brain now and again. It was meant to be Poe-esque. Have a wonderful Sunday. Your friend ..... Mike.

This is excellent poetry Vladistave my friend, but glad its fiction, for with all that blood and gore, hell would have been your score, no chance you would have in court, unless the worlds best defence advocate, you had sought. Unbelievable talent, i would give you POTD. HUGS AND BLESSINGS, JENNIFER.

Wow Mike this is so graphic, and passionate. It probably reflects someone who has been cheated on and dreams of, how he feels about their partner. I am sure this rings true for many that have been cheated on. Wonderfully written Revenge and Death for sure. Keep on writing my friend, and this one caught my attention...

What a sad story, so terrible in its intensity and so deep in its pathos ! By the heinous betrayal and brutal act of infidelty , the man was turned into a brute for the time being and ended the lives of both, the one he had loved so much and also her miscreant lover... ! I cannot brand him as a culprit.... ! Circumstances led him to a twin murder and he is ready to face the consequences as he has lost the urge to live. Great poem dear Vladislav
