I drove a cab in New York. Had a couple close calls. Insane, in our present day world especially, not to have protective shielding between passenger and driver. And never let anyone sit in front seat, no matter many there are. Too many, refuse job. My heart breaks for this woman and her children.

You're right, Joe. No protective shield b/t the cabbie and the passenger is the most short-sighted of shortcuts ever. What price a human life?...

Hi Gershon, This is such a heartbreaking story. It seems to be happening a lot in the Blue States lately. I don't think it will get any better unless people wake up. I had to stop watching the news. When you can see that wrong is right, right is wrong. If we continue down this path, we will cease to exist as a country. Nice piece, well written. Blessings ~ Debra

Well, I agree with you, Debra... although I think that we've been on the decline since the '60's really... Now we're closer to dissolution, as we see the yellow sun (China) rising in the East, not to mention the Russian Bear making a fierce stand worldwide. ~ gw

Sadly this is why I will never become an Uber driver. I hope this was fiction, but it might have been real. It feels real.

It's very, very REAL, unfortunately. Not becoming an Uber driver gives smart folks a lyft!

Not heard of this tragedy Gershon but it is a reflection of the way society is heading. This is pure evil. Best wishes..Ron

'Pure evil' about sums it up. The electric chair is too kind for these kind of recidivist thugs... :) gw

So sad Gershon, we live in a sick society without a doubt. Tom

Sick -- and getting sicker by the day... And I thought that the 70's were kind of sick. They were nothing compared to the rot and stench that roams the streets now. ~ Stay alive

Men AND women today, too many have transformed themselves into wild beasts -- and the American school system and criminal justice system aids and abets them. We have met the enemy, and it is us.

What a senseless tragedy! But then, all violence is senseless. My heart goes out to the family. Best wishes, my friend, Evelyn

Yes - a senseless tragedy, all right. Our hearts go out to the surviving children. What can we do but cry?

Hi Gershon, This is such a heartbreaking story to read. It's so sad that a hard-working mother is dead and her kids are left motherless. Stories like these are why I seldom watch the news-Alexis

Can't blame you for staying away from the news... One thing to keep in mind though: Think of the hundreds of thousands of Uber drivers who were not shot and killed yesterday!... One of the problems with news is that there is absolutely no context or perspective provided. ~ Just sayin' gw
