In the Darkness

In the darkness are hidden things
things I cannot see
but as I look around my room
I know they're watching me.

I hear them crawling on the floor
beneath my bed they creep.
They think that I can't hear them
as they wait for me to sleep.

They slither all about my room
they wiggle up my wall
some are posted at my door
waiting for a foot to fall.

And though I cannot see them
I know they're everywhere
waiting....in the darkness
pretending they're not there.

thanks for the comment on my poem. you're right people don't realize how much their words hurt and destrory someone on the inside. that poem was written while I was home visiting family for thanksgiving, since I started dating my boyfriend I have been getting a lot of comments from people saying he's using me or it won't work between us. I think it will though and that if you love some one enough you can almost anything work and age means nothing. I guess I just have to wait and ride this out

I hear sounds in the night all the time and it is spooky, and I'm 65, we are never to old to be afraid, but the Lord watches over me, so then i just go back to sleep. this was a wonderful piece you wrote. I wrote a story back in 1972, then I added to it, in 1979, then again in 1985, and it is standing still right now, waiting for me to come back to it. so i can relate to this. thank you reading my poetry and for your comments

I'm 44 and still feel this way! My hearing isn't wonderful, and I often can't positively identify small sounds, especially low tones, so every little noise sounds strange and frightening to me at night. Great poem! Thank you so much for your comments on my haiku "storm-weary" ~Juliane

I feel that something is in my room watching me also... And thanx for the comment. But there is no one in my life I can trust. That's why I write or sometimes I keep it bottled up inside. And I do believe in God and I pray to him to help lift this heavy burden from me. *Breana* ps thanx for reading my poems...

Oooh... spooky! This reminds me so much of my poem 'Nightmare.' Such unresolved tension and creepy imagery! Well done Robin!! Love, Keith

Pretty awesome for 15. We all know the boogie man, especially me after reading too many Stephen King novels. Love, shar
