Notes About The Poem
Ink's Boulevard of the Beloved Contest ~ 9/1/26

In the Aura of Astral Skies
There are 'once upon a time' stories in my life
those that took place on shadowed streets
while captive and caged behind a bastion of bars
when Luna's luminance cast no silver shadows
and night blooming jasmine held her perfume
Alone in loneliness I shivered and sighed
Stillness brewed too long is a bitter tea
Pale the glow of moonlight washing over me
but I know the moon is an honest manipulator
because she's the one who imprisoned me.
I lost my way reaching for stars and fell apart
like unstrung pearls rolling in the dreary dark
My heart was a dying ember without a spark
a fragile flower withered on the ground
candle wax melting when its flame was snuffed
I whimpered in whispers on dismally dark nights
a grain of sand that refused to fall in the hourglass
A thousand tears I have wasted weeping,
while waiting for heartache to pass
I filled the night's chalice with knots of desire
and my thirst for love ~ left unsated
for there were no fiery flames
to keep the pulse of passion burning.
My eyelashes flutter with wishful reveries
as I grasp the tormenting truth of reality
And yet my hassled heart is left wondering~
If time turns, will scars stain the sky?
Will there be someone to turn grey to blue
who will be able to heal the hurt inside?
Be kind, haloed moon to keep my hope alive.
I learned how to live unkissed, until I heard
a timbered voice reading poetry
but whose face was concealed by starlight
My senses were seduced, awakened as if
by the aura of astral skies
I praised the mysterious man for his reading
of what he undoubtedly thought was a soliloquy.
"Your name dear sir, if you please."
and felt the warmth of my cheeks blushing.
I waited for his reply, and softly spoken,
he whispered, "I am called, Allain
Tie me to your tongue to hear more
and if you move closer, in sweet repose
I shall recite tales of wildflowers, but none
as lovely as the glimmer in your eyes."
He, not I stepped closer...
Enchanted and eager, I listened to his droll
then beseeched if he could hold my hand
and pleaded for my cheek to kiss
I could almost hear waves crashing ashore,
I was caught in a storm of ardent madness
and demurely replied when I'd caught my breath,
"I think not, sir. You are a stranger, but
It's raining roses and love riots!"
He responded with a timbered laugh
then on he read, my sighs inexorably escaping
With each encore I yearned for more...
while we held fast to each other in intimate rapport
