In Starlight Time

The beauty of a galaxy Is heavenly A tapestry of dreams in speckled light Beneath a lilac tree You made love to me More tenderly than truly at first sight My ecstasy is suddenly A raging sea A misery so deep it will not die In this, my fantasy Of love, eternally Your memory is with me by and by... I don't know why the stars on high Are shining still Mocking me at will The virgin snow Reflects a warm hello But I am colder for the chill Like a Whippoorwill In the throes of deep December When Autumn leaves still blow In dreams of late September And smiles I remember For the glow Beside the train that night We said goodbye You were born to fly Somewhere on the breeze The scent of lilac trees Still brings a teardrop to my eye In a lullaby Or a song of sweet persuasion If reason follows rhyme Where all my dreams come true My thoughts will be of you In starlight time.

Line, glad you came across my poem. I'm very glad you liked it. It was inspired by a song, an old one, called "Stardust." That song has my favorite verse of all time, and, accordingly, "In Starlight Time" is my favorite self-penned poem. Admittedly, "Stardust" is still much, much better. Goodnight!

Thanks for reminding me to see this one, Bryan. It is really good and quite evocative, just like the beautiful song you mentioned to me. I am pretty sure I know that song already. Yes, this is one of your best poems, at least from what I have read of you so far. Sorry it took me so long to get to this one. Great imagery too! (I loved the repeated reference to lilac tree)

Whimsical, romantic and charming - another sublime write, Bryan, and a well-deserved placement! I adore the rhythm, (the musician in me, I suppose), and the lilt of phrasing, as well as the plaid weave of my favorite muses - nature and romance. Wonderful poem, my friend, and another fave, (perhaps I should just fave them all?) ... congrats and blessings! :o)

I see you are as critical of your own work as I am, my friend, and while that keeps us striving, we must try to be as kind to ourselves as we are to others ... yeah, really hard, that, I know, but our light must shine to help warm the world. Always a work in progress! Blessings, Friend!

You better not fave them all. Most of them are pretty bad! Nevertheless, thank you again for your comments. I really enjoy and respect what you have to say. I just hope I can keep up with you, and all the other great poets on PoetrySoup. Take care, my friend.
