In Need of Redemption

Yes, I know I must go to confession.
But, oh my, it has been over a year!
So, what if I freeze during the session?
I’m worried Father Joe might laugh and sneer.
Could I not say I had only one drink?
Then next time, I could say I told a lie?
Yeah, but that would surely make my ship sink.
Should God not know that really, I do try?
Maybe, I ask all the wrong questions, right?
I should just halt one punctuation mark,
Since no one can hear me this lonely night.
Oh Lord, I’m so cold and scared in the dark.
Okay, I admit, I’m a drunk and thief.
Forgive me so I can turn a new leaf.
