In My Nightmare I Wore a Wedding Gown

You stood there beneath the taunting man on the cross
Yet you stared at the stained floor
I was walking in the dreaded aisle unnoticed by the groom
The bouquet left no petal
For the fluttering flies took them as the bell rang
But you remained unmoved.

I was there almost
I even took the veil
But instead of taking my hand
You lit the candle
Then sprinkled water
On to the glass
Then laid a rose on my breast.

Glenn, I have to give you props. I did not expect your poem to be, what it was, from the title. I won't even tell you what I 'thought' it was going to be about. You have a fantastic poem and I am envious, because I can't write anything even close to this. Very good work, my friend. Congrats on making PD's winners' list....................S.Ronthorpe

hmmmmm This could be taken a number of different ways. "the taunting Man on the Cross", could it be that the speaker had rejected Christ and now lays dying and knows she has waited too long? Walking the dreaded asile", she lays dying so she is walking the last mile toward eternity to spend it -------- where. Flies always represent decay. The groom does not notice her because he can't see her, he stands alone and grieves A good write. God Bess, JB

I love your thoughts on the "taunting man.." and all the rest! You gave me different perspectives on my own poem. I so love this feeling. Thanks for your appreciation, Judy. This poem btw was inspired by a contest where the sponsor, Constance La France asked us to write something about an image she posted here http://www.poetrysoup.com/poetry_contests/member_contest_details.aspx?ContestID=1098
