In Memory of Monuments

These days once treasured
monuments are let
to weather away
or are bullied
and bulldozed to rubble.
Others have small cracks
picked at by compulsive minds
bent on excavating small lesions
into large, gaping wounds.
We are left with sad avenues
lined with inflated puppets
convulsing in weird gyrations
by belly fulls of blown air,
each with a power cord
stuck up you know where.

the contrast you've created is strinking and rings true with me. Love the satire in 'bellies full of air.' Well penned.

The even wanted to remove the statue of the Indian on Horseback from the front of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. A magnificent depiction of the indigenous and their plight.
