Notes About The Poem
Sara's Kaleidoscope of Emotional Suffering Contest ~ 8/12/26

In Grey Realms of Leaden Skies
After feeling like it's been poked, prodded and
trodden on, there's a heaviness in my heart.
Every time I try nodding off in sanctity of sleep
I cry when into my mind creeps a dismal darkness...
the fear I feel as if every move I make is a toxic turn
of a kaleidoscope where burdensome blue shards
are cutting away pieces of my suffering heart.
It's not ink but blood that spills from my quill.
There's no emotional empathy in grey realms
of leaden skies; no one hears my grievous cries,
or sees the torrent of tears falling from my eyes.
Each drop is a rivulet of pouring rain
bringing dolorous disdain to my soul
over the maudlin suffering that I dread.
Another twist of the kaleidoscope wheel
will give evidence of how I feel, for now I know
nothing will ever heal this melancholy malaise...
the randomly rearranged patterns of turmoil in my life.
It's akin to twisting the color filled tube
and the scene changes from contentment to chaos.
Dramatically diverse when rearranged.
It's too late to stop my weathered petals
from withering upon their dried, dying vine.
What was once delightfully divine
has been a candle flame snuffed out
by another catastrophic turn.
No longer does passion burn within me
for being spurned has left me filled with angst,
agonizing over the scattered shards
as if each one was a sliver of shrapnel
that severed my hemorrhaging heart.
Now, there's barely a pulse...
the bane and pain of flowing crimson blood.
