In Autumn's Crimson

dawning dingy attire
unfashionable skies
rise across the horizon

on the peaks
of this mountain
the hazy mist
eerily rises

beneath its dimness
hues of mocked sunrise
in autumn's fashion
poking though

my thoughts
twirling with the leaves
my mind weighted
with storm's breath

i hear the echo
of footsteps
in the crunch of leaves
behind my back

over my shoulder
i see nothingness
through this smoky fog
but i feel your breath
falling fast
in horripilation
against flesh

i hear the snap
of mind
loaded
triggers
pulled back
unsteadily taking aim

i hear your voice
carrying
over rocks
as the edges
of the creek
race towards me

the utterance of words
rumbling back
in angered spurts

the thunder
of my heart
racing against time

my life
hanging
in the shadows
that stalk

thoughts
lifting again
with fog
but never
diminishing
from memory

i still feel you
over my shoulder
always looking back
through the edges
of mind

i still taste
my blood
on love's lips
as autumn
drips
drops
of crimson
on the ground

To easy to get pulled into this one, but I won't want to go there... Eerie and a bit frightening. Sorry if you have been there... hugs.

I have been there. Only fragments of what I endure come out. I don’t think anyone could handle the pain inside me if I were to ever share it in a poem. Thank you my friend. Hugs

Has a gruesome feel to it, love the word horripilation, no way this can make you feel good, only sadness prevails, indicators of a tragic past, however well written! Plathlike but better!

It pains my heart to hear of your suffering, glad poetry keeps releasing slowly, the pain.

when you have been prey for years and staring a barrel down but somehow lived to tell about it, then stalked, to the point you always looked over your shoulders, those memories would haunt sometimes...i probably knew much more pain than Sylvia... thank you John....fog is eerie to me...one never knows what's lurking in the shadows...

A dark and lingering tale of fear and those sounds we hear when we are all alone. The thoughts that flow through our minds as imagination takes over and grips us as a branch falls or leaves rustle in the wind. This was amazing my friend. Your talent shine brightly in this frightening piece.

Fascinating how you pull me, your reader, into this shadowy web of bloody, crimson drip-drops. In fact, at the outset of the poem, I told myself NOT to identify with the 'i' of the poem, but I found myself as if drawn by a magnet. Some kind of magic wand you're waving there, S.A! :-) gw
