Notes About The Poem

This is a sonnet written about Obsessive compulsive disorder.
and the haiku and monoku are written using lines taken from the sonnet. Written for the sonnet-kuku contest sponsored by Charles Messina

Imperfect Perfection OCD -SHM

In pursuit of imperfect perfection,
she slowly turned every lucky star blind,
drowning in constant chores from obsession,
unable to appease her stormy mind.

Promises ascend against perception,
nothing halts fixed rituals from spinning,
as turmoils of time twirl through aggression,
she sees the devilish mantra winning.

What is left when breathing becomes a pain?
whilst malignant fears urge for reliance,
spiky succulents perish faith in vain
frantically panicking in silence.

day bleeds into repetitive debate—
Emotive wildfires stir despair and hate.

emotive wildfires
appease her stormy mind blind
stir despair and hate

breathing becomes a pain~in the pursuit of imperfect perfection

I Love this, Ink. Two of my four sons have OCD, so I can relate to this... I'm sure many can. Excellent poetry by all means...your magical pen speaks volumes, my dear friend. Congratulations on your top win! Happy New Year! Charlie

Excellent poetry in this difficult contest, my friend. You've described the behavior of an OCD person well and the Haiku was a good one. I could feel the turmoil in the Haiku. Good luck in the contest! Bill

An intense piece, very artsy... I loved how you combined the forms. "breathing becomes a pain" - I know what you mean, and "every lucky star blind"- how deep! Wishing you light, just me!

It must be a very difficult state of being to have OCD. It can be helped today though with the right meds and counseling. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us which reads like a good contender to me. Way to go. Sara K

What is left when breathing becomes a pain--splendid exploration in this poem, Ink. Flawlessly executed using three forms--aptly done for the contest theme.

I think Charlie will love this one.. Your sonnet is excellent, it flows so well and so many great lines about angst with OCD... no one wants that devilish mantra to win, this is a sonnet that is a little different, but that is always good... Your haiku is very good, very clever to use those lines as it makes sense after you poem and just before your excellent monoku...

Gosh, my dear Ink.. I can truly feel these emotions speaking to me in many ways, although you've written it specifically for OCD, but the depth here can be interpreted for myriad situations..When emotive wildfires stir hate and agression, creating a way for apathy to surround the atmosphere..Love ceases to breath and the heart drowns in a volcanic rage. "she slowly turned every lucky star blind", "spiky succulents perish faith in vain frantically panicking in silence" True what you've said about

Breathing becoming a pain as well, sigh. Sometimes my heart aches to feel about all these sufferings and ache.. You've so impeccably described the vulnerability here & am truly amazed by how effortlessly you've woven the sonnet, haiku & monoku together, flowing so wonderfully.. Loved reading this, best of luck for the contest!!
