Notes About The Poem

Imagine a Dead World

Imagine if all the krill
Beneath the ice shelves were dead.
Millions plus millions of krill
Fodder for ocean’s creatures:
Penguins, walrus, whales.
In the end all will die and the ocean
Will be a poorer place for all.

     Imagine if all the trees
Would lose all their leaves for ever.
     No Autumn splendour,
No fruit, no place where to hide.
     Would we not be living
     In pure disaster?

Imagine if there would not be any wind.
No music to inspire,
No words to adorn the arias,
No emotion on men’s faces.
We thrive on emotion.
And what is emotion if not poetry?
We simply cannot live without it.

Congratulations on this splendid poem& your high placement. I much agree with what you’ve communicated. The state of the ocean is a huge worry! I hadn’t even thought about the krill! OMG help us all! Here you’ve written not only fine words but also the spur to incite some further action!

I cannot imagine "Imagine if there would not be any wind. No music to inspire," and I certainly do not want to imagine "no words", but I imagine this is a winning entry in the contest.

A world without poetry would be dreary indeed! Your verse is an admirable reminder of how poetry answers the need for vibrancy, intensity-and magic-in the world. :=)

Such a desolate world --hard to imagine! You reached into the depths of what could be, Victor --no emotion, no poetry--no wonder you call it a dead world. All the best.

It seems to be heading that way Victor, mankind needs to buck up his ideas on how he's looking after this planet. Tom
