I'M Just Getting Started

I'm just getting started, but how could that be?
The golden years are the result of a beginning.
I guess there are beginnings at the end as well.
Is this how you are to feel, like a kid starting out?
Maybe this time I will be a little wiser than I was.
I feel that I am, but I also know better than that.
You can always take that road, that wrong turn.
I will admit it, I have made some bad choices.
Maybe that is why some people call me crazy.
That could be the case, but what is the reason?
Some think that it must have to do with a woman.
I think it must be all those crazy things we did.
Like the beat nicks and those hippies, crazy stuff.
I still have my old beret and some tie-dye shirts.
No, I don't think I have the energy for all that.
I did learn a lot about how not to live your life.
There are a few little secrets that I could tell you.
Make sure all your words are good and sweet.
You never know when you might have to eat them.
If you ever find heaven, hell won't be far behind.
And in the game of love, only the lonely can play.
I am just getting started, to conquer the world.
But now that I think about it, I said that last time.
This time that leap will need more than blind faith.
But then I have been known to be just a bit crazy!

You have taken the historical context of an age of discovery and gave it potency with your thinking. Congrats and great poem. Lonna

Excellent write Meru, this is at least the second time I recollect that you placed in my contest, I must start reading you as I thoroughly enjoyed this write, I had to leave out quite a few quality writes, but yours pulled ahead of the rest, so congrats on placing in my tough to judge premium contest!

These are the same years I’ve lived, and many of the thoughts, promises and failures you write of summon similar recollections in my head. It takes courage and great introspection to rouse the energies to write like this. In fact, you have to be a little crazy, but well written it is.
