I'M a Prisoner of My Own Fame

I’d been a singer for many, many years, More often than not, at the local clubs and bars. Then it happened one day, and through all the happy tears I realized that I’d made it…I was finally a star. I loved being noticed and written about by the press. It was as if all of my dreams had come true. I was as famous as they came, a huge success. From high on my perch, I had a beautiful view. For years, I made more money than I could possibly spend, And I had the fortune of living the good life. But it all came with a price, and in the very end My fame took its toll on me, my kids, and my wife. I didn’t mind the autographs once in a while, And the scheduled appearances were also fun. But as time went on, it got harder to keep a smile. I just didn’t have enough to give to everyone. I couldn’t go the park with my wife and kids Without being surrounded by a bunch of fans. It was amazing to see that no matter what I did I couldn’t spend the day just being a normal man. I just wanted to be able to go to the store And go shopping with my family without the noise. It got to the point where I couldn’t take any more. I just wanted a normal life for my wife and boys. As my friend once said, I’m a prisoner of my own fame. He was right, you know…so I had to retire. Things for me will never again be the same, Which is great…my spirits have never been higher.
