Illusion
Illusion
When people show you who they are
Be it by word or action
Believe them without any doubt
It’s for your own protection
For all too soon, if not too late
You’ll have a confrontation
That may be overwhelming and
May cause quite some frustration
Because you chose to pay no mind
You showed much understanding
You knew things weren’t as they seemed
But still you kept pretending
You chose to turn a blind eye to
That which was so revealing
Assumptions now turned into facts
And this has got you reeling
You are appalled, outraged, and hurt
The rudeness of it all!
What was so bearable at first
Now drives you up the wall
Was it your gullibility
That got the upper hand?
How come that you could trust so much
But now you simply can’t?
It’s human nature once again
We fall for the illusion
That trust brings forth trust in exchange
And this causes confusion
But people do show who they are
To see is to believe
So look and see what they reveal
And you won’t suffer grief.
