For Regina McIntosh's Kyrielle sonnet contest

A Kyrielle Sonnet consists of 14 lines (three rhyming quatrain stanzas and a non-rhyming couplet). Just like the traditional Kyrielle poem, the Kyrielle Sonnet also has a repeating line or phrase as a refrain (usually appearing as the last line of each stanza). Each line within the Kyrielle Sonnet consists of only eight syllables. French poetry forms have a tendency to link back to the beginning of the poem, so common practice is to use the first and last line of the first quatrain as the ending couplet. This would also re-enforce the refrain within the poem. Therefore, a good rhyming scheme for a Kyrielle Sonnet would be:

AabB, ccbB, ddbB, AB -or- AbaB, cbcB, dbdB, AB.

If you are irritated by every rub, how will your mirror be polished? Rumi
When burdens lead to floods of tears, I know you're near in all my fears. When I'm lost in a silent place, I'll find mercy in your sweet grace. You heal me in times of lament, so for all my sins, I repent. When anxious doubts begin to chase, I'll find mercy in your sweet grace. In your wonders I'm truly blessed, but know in life I'm just a guest. When I'm climbing heaven's staircase, I'll find mercy in your sweet grace. When burdens lead to floods of tears I'll find mercy in your sweet grace.

When confronted with difficult situations that persist, we do think of our core beliefs and continue to promote them. I think your quote from Rumi says that well. Things that are very worthwhile often take a substantial effort to achieve and test our character. I view the sweet grace as finding the core of my values and letting it guide me in times of difficulty while I have the strength.

"When anxious doubts begin to chase, I'll find mercy in your sweet grace." This is how I too feel. Some times we become numb with fear and pain. On such occasions we may not be able even to pray. But God will hear our silent sobs. Beautiful entry, dear friend. I am sure it will be placed high. All the Best ! This is a beautiful hymn and a supplication ! His grace is enough to help us come through every trial and tribulation.

This is so lyrical and so beautiful how youve written this truly. I love it. Especially the opening lines felt like a catchy song to my soul. And has so much depth in every line woven. “ I know you're near in all my fears. When I'm lost in a silent place” Depicts inner faith and light and how one find’s assurance in times of darkness, knowing their lord is near. “ but know in life I'm just a guest. When I'm climbing heaven's staircase,“ soul hitting really! How powerful are those lines! Truly yo

your Sonnet just flowed so effortlessly and was a genuine expression of unconditional love and support, sometimes a rare commodity in today's world. The last two summary lines were softly powerful, if that makes sense. Have a great evening, Silent One.

I like the Rumi quote that you used. He has so many good short lines that say so much. Yes, He is there all the time, but we have to go through some unpleasant things in our lives. Reads like a good contender to me for the contest. Way to go. Sara K
